Community INTERN

Lake Forest, IL | Part-time

 

AS OUR U.S. COMMUNITY INTERN, you will DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS AND EXPERIENCES WITH REFUGEES IN THE U.S., ORGANIZE COMMUNITY BUILDING EVENTS, MENTOR NEWCOMERS TO THE U.S. AND INTRODUCE THEM TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES. You will directly impact tens of newly resettled refugee families.

 
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Competency in Arabic language (at minimum speaking proficiency)

  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and attention to detail abilities

  • 1-2 years experience working with U.S. refugee community resettlement efforts

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good team member

  • Sensitivity to confidential matters

  • Familiarity with Google Drive and various software

  • Driver’s license and access to a car is preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Community Program Coordinator to maintain relationships with resettled refugee/asylee families in the U.S. across 8 states

  • Assist with family check-ins via email and phone periodically

  • Conducting home visits with our refugee families in the Chicagoland suburbs

  • Support on case intake, including interviews and documentation

  • Facilitate basic mentorship through service provision follow up (in areas such as: vocational training/job search, online and paper job applications, youth program coordination, english support, etc)

  • Identify, reach out and/or follow-up with skills-building/network event opportunities for Syrian refugees

LOCATION:

Lake Forest, IL and Chicagoland Suburbs

HOURS:

Part-time, 10 - 15 hours/week. Paid Internship.
