My mother and I fled Syria 3 years ago to escape the increasing violence and heavy bombardment of our city. We live with my grandfather in his home. My mother and I have not seen my father in years. We do not know if he is alive. It has been very difficult for my mother to afford our living expenses.
UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2016: "My mommy has been teaching me how to count and now I can do that very well. I am going to learn more of the alphabet this year and mommy is going to start teaching me how to read once I start kindergarten, which is going to be this year! I’m a little nervous but I hope it will all be full of fun and friends." - Maram
UPDATE - JANUARY 2017: "I started kindergarten this year and I was so nervous, but I love it so much now. Thanks to my teacher, I am learning the letters in English and so many other things in Arabic. I love her so much! My best friend's name is Layal and we eat and play together at school." -Love, Maram
UPDATE - APRIL 2017: " My mom says I'm a smart girl. I love learning so much and I get to play with Layal all the time. I'm learning Turkish now and getting really good at it!" -Love Maram
UPDATE - OCTOBER 2017: “I love going to school, I always get to learn new stuff and make new friends. During the break we play hide and seek and enjoy our time. One day I want to become a teacher.” – Maram
