CITY OF ORIGIN: HOMS
YEAR OF DISPLACEMENT: 2015
OUR FAMILY: MOHAMED (2002)
OUR STORY:“We were forced to leave our town after ISIS entered it. They did terrible things. As we were planning to leave the town, there was such terrible bombing. We finally made it to Turkey after extreme hardship. My father passed away on the journey and I was left the only one able to support the family. So I was not able to go to school. Meeting Karam Foundation has changed my life, and enabled me to return to school.” – Mohamed
UPDATE - APRIL 2016: “I made so many new friends lately. Mohamed, Khaled, Ahmed, and I go to Turkish classes together. They make class really fun for me! At school, I am second in my class. My mom is so happy! On the soccer field, I’ve become the best defense player.” Mohamed
UPDATE - OCTOBER 2017: “This summer, I was able to attend workshops at Karam House. I was really happy because I got to learn about new things like aviation, comedic acting, and Turkish! I’m now in 11th grade and preparing for university. School is tiring but I am happy to be enrolled where I can not only learn but spend time with my friends.” - Mohamed
UPDATE - DECEMBER 2017: “My sister Fatma helps me at home, and my friend Abdulla helps me at school. Science is my favourite class and I am hoping that one day I will be able to attend university and that's why I go to school with enthusiasm. In Karam House I take classes to improve my Turkish so I can become the best.” – Mohamed.
UPDATE - APRIL 2018: “I love my mother so much, she’s my role model. My favourite football team is FC Barcelona. I have many Syrian friends at school and we hope that we’ll make it to university one day. I am trying to learn Turkish and I enjoy my Arabic a lot.” – Mohamed.
