“After my father was wanted for the regime’s security forces, we decided to leave Syria and seek haven in neighboring Turkey. We moved to Istanbul in 2015 and after a short while my mom died. My dad and my older brother work to secure a living for us. I used to work as well but thanks to Karam I am now going to school instead. I speak Turkish and I want to carry on with my education and become an engineer one day.” – Wa’d.
UPDATE - OCTOBER 2017: “My dream is to become an architect have my own architectural firm. I also want to go to Dubai where my sister lives. This year I started school early and I have the same friends from last year. I want to focus more on the scientific classes for this semester.” – Wa’d
UPDATE - DECEMBER 2017: “I am doing very well at school, my grades were out recently and my average was around 80%. For me maths is the easiest class, and English is the hardest, I try studying it by myself without receiving any help. I do not get bored of going to school.” – Wa’d.
UPDATE - APRIL 2018: “I am doing good in all my classes and go about in studying and understanding all the subjects except for physics. I feel like my teacher has trouble in explaining the material. My favorite subject is math. I will be really happy if I get the opportunity to study at a university in the future, and I hope it will be in English. I love to eat mandi! I have many acquaintances at school, but only one close friend. I look up to my father.” - Wa’d.
